Kisumu, Kenya's third-largest city, has a rich history that includes its role as a railway terminus, a port, and a landing point for the first flight in East and Central Africa: 1.Railway terminus Kisumu was established in 1901 as an alternative to Port Victoria as a terminus for the Uganda Railway. The city was originally called Port Florence, but reverted to its original name, Kisumu, in 1903. Port Kisumu was a major port on Lake Victoria during the commonwealth of East Africa. It was a key connection point for the caravan trail from Pemba, Mombasa, and Malindi to Uganda and Central Africa. 2.Landing point for the first flight. Kisumu was the landing point for the first flight in East and Central Africa. The British used amphibian planes to transport passengers and mail between Southampton and Cape Town. 3.Nickname Kisumu is nicknamed 'Mboka', which comes from the Luo word sumo meaning 'a place of barter trade'. 4.Cultural melting pot Kisumu is a diverse city with a rich history that includes indigenous African inhabitants, European colonialists, and Asians who arrived with the railway line. 5.Commercial and transport hub Kisumu is a key commercial and transport hub in the Lake Victoria Basin. Its main industries include processing agricultural products, fishing, brewing, and textile manufacturing.

My name is Jack, a social entrepreneur, a social worker and a volunteer as well. With the aim to promote education for orphans & vulnerable children, I work with a social enterprise called OAC Kenya ( Tours & Crafts ) and a nonprofit Community Based Organization called KCOOP. My social enterprise offers voluntary services by linking up volunteers with charity schools and orphanages The booking fees from this experience helps in paying school fees and buying some school supplies for orphans and vulnerable children in my community. Growing up from a very humble background made me passionate about helping less fortunate kids. I am now looking for like minded individuals, enterprises or organisations for partnership to enable me help more kids.
