Description

Begin your adventure by crossing a long Tibetan bridge suspended inside the mangrove trees. Walk on the swinging boards and experience the thrill of being surrounded by nature. As you cross, spot a variety of sea and bird life in the local ecosystem and see different species of mangroves. Reach the lagoon, a sea inlet about 5 km long, with shallow fjords ruled by the tides and protected by a tangle of rhizomes. This marine lagoon, a comfortable bed of aquatic plants and corals, is a labyrinth of waterways where the Indian Ocean forms several islets. Discover Mida Creek, home to many fish species and a feeding site for sea turtles. The warm and shallow waters, as well as the silt areas, are habitats for millions of snails, crabs, and all sorts of other creatures. It’s also a refuge for many migratory birds that come from Europe and the Middle East. Spot 65 species of birds, including storks, herons, pink flamingos, marsh waders, marabou, eagles, kingfishers, and the sacred ibis. Reach the water during low tide and walk onto the seabed, where numerous varieties of echinides (starfish) and crabs will emerge, along with crustaceans with unexpected colors and shapes. Learn about Mida Creek, designated by UNESCO as a Bird International Zone and Biosphere Reserve, and the second largest ornithological reserve in Africa.
