Description

Embark on a 3-day budget adventure from Nairobi to the Aberdare National Park. Explore the forest trails used by the Mau Mau, visit the hideout cave of Dedan Kimathi, and enjoy a picnic lunch by the forest edge. Day 1: Nairobi – Aberdare National Park (Mau Mau Trail & Scenic Drive) Depart Nairobi and head north through Nyeri County. Stop in Nyeri Town for snacks or to visit the Dedan Kimathi statue. Enter the Aberdare Forest via Wandare or Mutubio Gate. Embark on a guided nature walk to Dedan Kimathi’s hideout cave and walk through forest trails used by the Mau Mau. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the forest edge. Take a scenic drive to the Aberdare viewpoint and catch views of Mount Kenya in the distance. Arrive at a budget lodge or KWS Bandas near the forest. Day 2: Aberdare Ranges Exploration (Waterfalls & Highland Trails) Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before driving into the higher moorlands of the Aberdare Ranges. Visit Karuru Falls or Gura Falls, among Kenya’s tallest waterfalls. Embark on a light guided hike through the bamboo forest zone. Keep an eye out for colobus monkeys, forest hogs, and bongo.
