Description

Look beyond the stereotypes and see Kibera through the eyes of the young artists that live there - Sun Valley Art is an art collective made up of around 15 local artists who all grew up in Kibera. On this tour, we will show you the educational murals and urban art that is dotted throughout Kenya's largest informal settlement. You will get to visit and talk with local artists and art collectives, whilst sampling our favourite street foods along the way. You will also get the chance to visit our studio and hear our stories of life-long love affairs with art, and our efforts to utilise this passion to improve the lives of our community. By joining our tour you too will be supporting these efforts. - We will meet outside the shopping centre in Jamhuri estate (maps location can be provided) - We will then walk through Kibera together, visiting various murals, art collectives, artist's houses and studios, and stopping to eat snacks at our favourite street vendors - Along the way there will be multiple opportunities to purchase local art to take home with you - We will finish the tour near to Olympic stage, where you can easily call an Uber/taxi or take a matatu to your next destination Please bare in mind that we will be passing people going about their daily lives, and we ask that you be respectful in your conduct and we can tell you when it's appropriate to take photos.
