Description

Embark on a 5-day trek to the summit of Mount Kenya. Climb through the montane forests, bamboo, and giant heather zones before reaching the high-altitude moorland and the first camping site at Met Station. Enjoy the surreal setting below the towering peaks and glaciers at Mackinder Lodge, Campsite. Day 1: Arrival Nairobi and Transfer to Nanyuki Comfort Gardens Hotel Upon your arrival in Nairobi, a pre-arranged transfer will be waiting to take you to the Nanyuki Comfort Gardens for an overnight stay. Check in to your room and take a moment to settle in and refresh after your journey. Day 2: Comfort Gardens Hotel to Met Station Start your second day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel. Pick up early in the morning and transfer to Naromoru Park Gate which is 2600 meters above sea level. From here, begin your hike to Met Station. Trek up through the montane forests, bamboo, and giant heather zones before reaching the high-altitude moorland and the first camping site at Met Station, which is 3,048 meters above sea level. It will take you 3 to 4 hours to climb the 500 meters. Day 3: Met Station to Mackinder Campsite On this day, enjoy breakfast and proceed upward from Met Station through the spectacular Tereki Valley past strange giant groundsel and lobelia to emerge onto Mackinder Lodge, Campsite. The campsite rests at 4,300 meters above sea level. This is a surreal setting below the towering peaks and glaciers, with its resident population of the bizarre rock hyrax. Day 4: Mackinder Campsite to Lenana Summit to Chogoria Bandas Have an early start today to reach the Summit Lenana which is at 4,895 meters for sunrise. The climb starts on frozen scree and continues on a rocky track. With some good moon, you barely need a torch. Without the moon, then the pollution-free sky, bang on the equator, will give you a good view of the stars almost anywhere on earth. The climb takes approximately 3 to 4 hours. From here, you can add the exhilaration of the Mount Kilimanjaro which is visible on the horizon. After this point, head down for a late breakfast at Hall Tarns in the magnificent Gorges Valley. After your late breakfast, head down further to Chogoria Bandas Lodge to relax your tired legs. Take a hot shower and a chilled drink as you recapture your memories. Day 5: Departure Have a wonderful morning with breakfast at the Lodge. At 08:00, depart and proceed downwards to Chogoria Town for your transfer to Nairobi or the next destination.
