Join Almasi, the only woman woodcarver in Lamu Island, on a guided tour of the fascinating and world-renowned Swahili Carved Doors. Have a pleasurable stroll through Lamu Old Town, a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site and learn about the rich history of the town.
We would set off on a walking tour of Lamu Old Town from the town square or wherever the client would prefer to be picked up from. Admire the stunning architectural masterpieces that adorn the narrow alleyways of Lamu. Learn about the various carving styles and origins of the world renowned Lamu Carved Doors as you stroll through the main streets and back streets of Lamu. You would get to appreciate the intricate carvings and excellent workmanship of the art of traditional woodcarving on these doors.
This tour is excellent for the adventurous and curious type of person, those fascinated with old things and ways of doing, those craving to slow down to admire beauty.
You will learn about the different designs on the doors and differentiate the different carving styles.
The walking tour lasts for 3 hours.
The tour is dependent on weather conditions. Lamu experiences favourable weather conditions most of the year. If during the rainy season (May/June/July), the tour would be conducted at the times where there is no rain.

There are myriad shops where one can buy anything minor at any time, however, feel free to carry your own refreshments and snacks.
The tours are conducted in the afternoon time from 3 p.m. However, if desiring a different time slot for the tour, please get in touch in advance to arrange a suitable time.
