Description
Hell’s Gate National Park: Kenya’s Adventure Playground
Tucked in the Great Rift Valley just 90 minutes from Nairobi. The park gets its name from the dramatic red cliffs, obsidian caves, and geothermal steam that vent through the earth. It’s a raw, volcanic landscape shaped by ancient eruptions. The star attractions are: Hell’s Gate Gorge: A narrow, twisting canyon where you scramble over boulders, wade through cool water, and walk past hissing fumaroles. Fischer’s Tower: A 25-meter volcanic plug rising from the plains. It’s the formation that inspired Pride Rock in Disney’s The Lion King, and it’s a magnet for rock climbers and photographers. Open savannah & cliffs: Cycle or walk wide trails with 360° views of the Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Naivasha in the distance, and raptors circling overhead. With 100+ bird species and resident wildlife, every turn feels close to nature. It’s also a film location for Tomb Raider II and The Constant Gardener.
Olkaria Geothermal Spa: Recovery in the Rift
Inside the park lies Olkaria, Kenya’s geothermal heart. The Olkaria Geothermal Spa taps into that same underground heat to fill mineral-rich, naturally warm pools. The warm, mineral water helps soothe muscles, while the setting keeps you connected to the wild landscape. It’s quiet, scenic, and powered entirely by renewable geothermal energy from the area.
