A one-day trip to Mount Kenya offers a, thrilling, condensed trekking experience, typically via the Sirimon Route, departing from Nairobi around 6 AM to hike through bamboo and heath zones up to 3,000m-3,600m. Highlights include scenic moorlands, unique flora, and stunning views of the Nelion and Batian peaks before returning to Nairobi by evening • Hike through the lush rainforests around Mount Kenya from Nanyuki Town (1980 meters) we drive toward the Mount Kenya to the Sirimon gate at 2650 meters. The distance between Nanyuki and Sirimon Gate is 23 km. • First, we complete the park entry formalities at the Sirimon Gate end than you can start 3 ½ hours hike on the Mount Kenya (9km) through forest, bamboo, rosewood and heather zones to Old Moses camp (also called Judmeier Camp) at 3300 meters. The forest and bamboo are home to hundreds of elephants, buffalo's, bushbucks and a plethora of bird species. • After acclimatization we hike a little higher near Old Moses camp at 3600 meters to see the 2 Mount Kenya peaks. Nelion and Batian. These peaks can only be climbed by professional Alpinists. • You have plenty of time to take pictures, and then we descend down from to Old Moses camp at 3300 m where you can have lunch • After lunch we descend down for 9 km's (1.5 hours) to Sirimon gate where you’ll find our 4×4 vehicles waiting to transfer you back to your hotel in Nairobi for a shower and a well-earned rest. Itinerary for Overnight: Day 1:Nairobi- Mt Kenya Drive to the North East of the equator which is 150km from Nairobi. Mount Kenya closest towns are Nanyuki and Karatina where the neighboring community grows tea and coffee. After arriving at the Sirimon gate, check in and begin the hike for 3 hours and 9km slowly as you view the beautiful Mount Kenya Sirimon forest with bamboo, heather zones and rock wood. The wildlife found in Mount Kenya Sirimon route are elephant, buffalos, birds, water bucks and giraffes. In about 3 hours you will be able to arrive at the 1st camp of Mt Kenya (Old Moses) Sirimon route 3320m. You may decide to walk around in the evening and see the surrounding peaks or relax in the camp. Dinner at the camp. Day 2 : Mt Kenya- Nairobi Old Moses camp 3320m to 3700m (Mackinders valley rock junction) early in the morning after breakfast tests your individual fitness by hiking an average altitude of over 400. The vegetation cover in this altitude is giant groundsel and giant lobelia which forms part of equatorial forest mountain. Return back to the base of the mountain and drive back to Nairobi arriving in late afternoon.
