Lamu island remains one of the most quiet, eventful, cultural rich tour destinations in the Kenyan coast.The island host the historical fort,museum, Riyadh mosque and square, the beautiful sea front, busy business street narrowed by the donkey transport. You can try fresh sea food delicacies, coconut drinks and delicious Swahili dishes. Travellers are also treated to beautiful traditional artisans wares and Swahili cultural attires suited to the warm weather around the island. Itinerary. The tour begins by walking to the Lamu fort through the busy business street of Lamu. The Fort is located in a central position about 70m from jetty. This tour takes about 30 minutes. Lamu museum is the second destination, situated in the main water front street of the old Lamu town facing Manda Bay. The historical tour summarizes the old town's Swahili cultural life. Then, we will go to the Riyadh Mosque in Lamu. It provides an important overview of the historical orientation of Islamic education in East Africa. We will have a break for cold coconut drinks and food at the sea front hotels. Travellers are later guided through the artisan shops for the beautiful Swahili wares and items, with donkey ride to Shella taking place in the afternoon. NB:The Fort and the museum are opened only on working days.
